The Research Division of the Hogan Assessments – represented in Brazil by consulting HR Workshop, distribuidora nacional dos testes Hogan– publicou um estudo que mostra as main diferenças entre CEOs e profissionais que não ocupam este cargo de liderança nas empresas.

CEO Joe KennedyThe survey was conducted in New Zealand, based on three distinct dimensions: the "light side" of personality, This is, What is evidenced in the everyday behavior of these executives, their values and the "dark side" — when their brightest features become your biggest problems.

"CEOs are not as mortals managers. Are much more ambitious, competitivos e confiantes do que qualquer outro Professional. Are focused on getting results, and obviously, enjoy being in power, have status and to be on top. More than any of us, CEOs are completely geared to work and are more serious than fun. They are pretty much the representation of the word focus ", says Roberto Santos, partner-Director of HR Workshop.

Positive traits

In General, CEOs are stable people, mature, competitive, socially responsible, geared to results, a little more creative and much more aware of the moment in which they find themselves than any other professional. From an evolutionary perspective, that makes a lot of sense – CEOS are people who have a huge sense of political scenario, quem devem conquistar e quem não pode ser derrubado tão easily.

Values

The values of the CEOs also show a mixture between stability and change. These executives are more conservative than most people – respect the hierarchy and tradition but, at the same time, are geared to novelties and innovations.

The "subtribes" of CEOs

The study also ranks some "subtribes" CEOs, i.e., Executive groups that resemble by its characteristics. See:

The Alphas-CEOs "Alfa" are characterized by a high level of energy and ambition, and are the most dynamic group. They have the classic characteristics of a leader – are interested in results, status, hierarchy and the business activities of the company. Are also quite creative and inclined to risk. This group also has features that make them easy-to-access people, inspiring and skilled in forming alliances.

The "brains" – the main feature of these leaders is his above-average intelligence. If the Alphas had a big contribution of his charisma and focus to reach the leadership, the "brains" got there by being smarter and are specialists in their field. Confident and well-behaved, are less interested in power and position that the Alphas and more attracted by technical and commercial issues. Are very analytical and focused. Some people tend to have the image that these leaders are technocrats.

The Pragmatists – Those CEOs tend to be practical, quite realistic in your visions, and even a little hard. Are less sociable and more reserved, and are not susceptible to other people's feelings, the hesitation or uncertainty about a number of possibilities. They don't usually get paralyzed unable to make a decision, but also don't choose a way forward prematurely. Are sensitive and do not like to risk. Are not charismatics as the Alphas and may be considered difficult people.

The derailers

The study also led to determine the main factors that can derail the career of a CEO. In General, the survey identified two behaviors that take these executives the rails of success. See what are:

The arrogant – people whose profile stands out for its arrogance are – believe me – very charismatic, called "born leaders" by some people, and have a lot of energy to work. However, in situations where they feel threatened, reveal your worst side: expect admiration and success in everything you do. If your expectations are not met explode in narcissistic reactions. The overconfident leads these people to the refusal to accept your failures and errors, making difficult learning, In addition to remaining blame for who's around.

Although these CEOs attract many people-after all, like to test limits and accept risks, On the other hand, the Club tends, over time, to tire of them. These executives have difficulty managing your time, constantly burden your staff and take shortcuts.

The melodramatic – expect to always be the center of attention and are good at calling attention upon themselves. They have a good profile for careers that require an intense public exposure with talent for dramaturgy applied. However, These professionals also are terrible listeners, impulsive and unpredictable; as managers not giving space to your people shine, because the spotlight must only has one focus – your greatness.

As CEOs, These professionals tend to be quite charismatic, and like to be the center of attention. In negative bias, are described as horrible people managers, for exercising pressure on the team.
