More than 4,000 people took to the streets of the capital, Sofia, on Saturday, claims that the Parliament did not ratify the Act.

“I will present a proposal to the Council of Ministers to stop the procedure for accession of Bulgaria to the MINUTES”, Traikov said to journalists. Similar marches drew thousands of demonstrators throughout Eastern Europe, Besides in Germany, France and Ireland.

The ACTA aims to reduce the trademark theft and fighting other pirates online, but the agreement has raised concern, especially in Eastern Europe, about online censorship and intensified surveillance. Some demonstrators came to compare it to surveillance used by the old Communist regimes.
