Transforming Education SummitThe Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC – Conselho de Education de Abu Dhabi) officially inaugurated the first Transforming Education Summit. TES – Summit de Transformação da Education – addresses the need for changes in education around the world. Under the patronage of his Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the armed forces of Abu Dhabi, and Chairman of ADEC, the summit will assess how to provide relevant education in a global society with rapid changes.

The summit at the Emirates Palace between 7-9 may, account with a series lectures, panels, laboratory sessions and case studies from around the world.

The event was inaugurated by His Highness Dr. Khamis Al-Mugheer Khaili, Director General the ADEC.

Dr. Al Khaili said: “If anyone has any doubt about the value of education in any society, the journey of Abu Dhabi last decades can confirm this value. In The TES, We hope to share our experiences with our colleagues from abroad, and we want to know the different educational transformations implemented worldwide that can help with the scope of these goals”.

The former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Gordon Brown was accompanied by Andy Hargreaves, a global authority on transformation of education, in the first lecture of the summit, called “Thinking Ahead” (Thinking about the future).

The second speaker was Mary Hanafin, former Minister of Education and science of Ireland (2004-2008); and John Dennehy, former Secretary of education and Sciences of Ireland (1998-2005), who spoke at the summit about Delivering Within ‘’ (Internal Delivery).

The day 9 may starts with a lecture called ‘ Leading Across’ (Total Leadership) of Tarja Halonen, President of Finland (2000-2012) and Muhyiddin Yassin, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of education of Malaysia. SA Eng. Ziad Al Siksek, CEO of the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi will address the issue of how leaders must attract the private sector and outsourced.

The TES is presented by ADEC in partnership with the Directorate of Education of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD – The Board of Education of the Organization for cooperation and Development Economical), the leading global management consultancy Booz & Company, and the Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC – Advanced Technology Investment Company), the technology of Mubadala investment Division.

Booz & Company will report in partnership with ADEC Conference summary with recommendations from the sessions. A series of working groups are meeting next year to discuss global challenges.
